Wildlife Rescue Ambulance Service
East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service is a local community service helping
people who find sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. From hedgehogs caught in netting to
deer caught in stock fencing WRAS rescues are there to help wildlife round the clock and
has recently been featured on the BBC1 programme "Animal 24:7". It is distressing for
everyone involved including the casualty. WRAS is trying to run a 24 hours emergency
service for wildlife casualties, currently the charity doesn't have the funds to respond to all
calls but is covering over 80% at present. WRAS volunteer rescuers responded to over
2800 incidents during 2008 working over 15 hours a day on occasions. WRAS works
closely with and is called out by Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service
and is run entirely by donations.
