The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team

Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team is the charity saving the lives of the suicidal at the cliffs of Beachy Head. The highly trained team is a Christian chaplaincy specialising in search and rescue and suicide intervention.

Since beginning in 2004 the team has been involved in over 4600 searches for missing persons and has rescued over 1600 despondent people.

BHCT is largely staffed by volunteers who are backed up by a team of support staff. The team now consists of a number of specialised units.

The Proactive Frontline team provides over 100 hours of patrols both day and night every week of the year in their fully equipped 4x4 vehicles. The team search for those in distress, intervening with people on the cliff edge in the most serious cases. Utilising specialist search techniques as well as specialist equipment such as thermal imaging technology, the team also respond to requests from Sussex Police to search for missing people believed to be heading to Beachy Head.

The On-call response team is available 24 hours a day, and
is called directly by the Frontline team or out of patrol hours by the Police or Coastguard. It provides support to the Proactive team during serious or multiple interventions, a search and rescue response out of patrol hours and a larger search team from BHCT for wider searches.

The Beachy Head Chaplaincy is a registered charity funded entirely by voluntary donations.
